Professional Background
Viola Gonzales, a seasoned executive has successfully managed men and women of different disciplines, backgrounds and professional levels in many venues: for profit and not for profit operations, public service and public policy development.
Viola Gonzales currently serves as the executive director of The Latino Community Foundation (LCF). It mission is to advocate for Latinos and to promote engagement and investment that fosters healthy and empowered communities. Its purpose is to increase philanthropic investments -- in the Latino community -- by the Latino community in five interrelated areas: educational achievement, healthy communities, empowering Latinas, economic development and civic engagement. The foundation seeks innovative public-private partnerships to strengthen Latino institutions, create a capital base to support its nonprofit sector and give leadership to the issues that face the Latino community.
Prior to joining LCF, Ms. Gonzales was executive director of Latino Issues Forum, a California based public policy and advocacy institute. She has held positions with business, nonprofits, and government including the Unity Council, Office of the Mayor: Honorable Elihu M. Harris, YWCA of Oakland, and Pacific Telephone among others.
Currently she serves on the Policy & Oversight Committee: Oakland Fund for Children & Youth, Health Access Foundation and the Verizon Consumer Advisory Board. Past activities include President of California Pan-Ethnic Health Network and Health Access California, Vice President of the Board of Education in Oakland, member of the City Planning Commission and President of the Fruitvale Community Development District.
Ms. Gonzales has a degree in business economics from St. Mary's University in San Antonio, Texas, and an MBA from Harvard Business School.
