Leadership & Innovation - Marcela Monge and Anne Griswold, LifeScan
"To be a leader means, especially, having the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of those who permit leaders to lead." -- Max DePree
Innovation demands leadership, this imperative is far more than a function of leadership; today's leaders must be accountable for innovation. In today's challenging times it is essential to develop new ideas, take advantage of new opportunities and keep ahead of the competition. The questions include: "How are Innovation and Leadership linked?" and "How do we lead in a way that generates Innovation?"
The opportunity for leaders to be innovative in their leadership may first come from a commitment to take seriously and act intentionally in the basic things that they always knew to be true. One of those truths is that a leader must invest in developing themselves and developing the ones whom he/she leads. The need is to acquire new thinking and strategies for creating environments that foster and sustain innovation. The opportunity is to rigorously maintain simple thinking practices that allow innovative actions.
Negotiation Skills (Let the Game Begin) Elizabeth Santilli, Regional Human Resource Director, The Central Pacific Group of Cintas Corporation
Most people look at negotiations in the wrong way. They see it as a contest in which one party wins at the expense of the other. But negotiation is not necessarily a contest. While elements of competition are undeniably built into the process it is far more than an adversary procedure. There are 5 modes of negotiations going on all at once. Recognition of these 5 modes are guaranteed to help.
SFAS 157 Fair Value Measurements Workshop - Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting (ALPFA)
FASB Statement No. 157 “Fair Value Measurements” (FAS 157) provides enhanced guidance for using fair value to measure assets and liabilities. It applies whenever other standards require or permit assets or liabilities to be measured at fair value. FAS 157 does not expand the use of fair value in any new circumstances, but is reshaping the focus from historical cost (entry market) to more current values (exit market). During this workshop we will provide a summary of SFAS 157 and its accounting and disclosure implications. In addition, as an example, we will share with you a high level overview of the process that Pacific Gas and Electric Company implemented to adopt this standard.
